My playlists lean heavily towards classic country, with some random other stuff thrown in. I choose my songs based on rhythm, mostly, but sometimes for the lyrics. And I can't have songs on my playlist that I don't know really well and can sing along with.
My current favorite song is "Thankful" by Kelly Clarkson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GSPtLy-YC8.
I also love good acoustic Spanish guitar music, especially Ottmar Liebert. (Not the "Mexican" sounding stuff)
I'm currently reorganizing my playlists, and will post more when I'm finished!
I play/ride to Michael Jackson's Live cd's. It fascinates me that Fancy gets a bit on edge when "Thriller" plays --she doesn't like the howling?? The rest of the cd's she likes. Otherwise, a lot of times I just have country on the radio station. All my horses listen to country when inside due to weather... We have an old quarter horse that loves "Watermelon Crawl" and will trot to it and not miss a beat.
I like Mary Ann Kennedy songs from "The Rhythm of the Ride" and "Hoofbeats, Heartbeats & Wings". They help me to remember to relax and help to keep rhythm. I'm one of those that "got no rhythm".
I always turn our barn iPod onto Dave Stamey (campfire, story-teller country) but on my iPod I have a ton of stuff.
David Lichman has music stuff posted on his site, including the BPM (beats per minute) of the songs. Somewhere I have the range of BPM for each gait of the horse. One day I'd LOVE to actually ride TO the music.
I need a new iPod so I can load up some of MY music and just plug it into the barn speakers . . . one day . . .
I finally made some CDs to take to the barn, and have 110 songs total. If someone knows how to get my my playlist from iTunes to here, I'd be happy to share it!
Oh no, I don't have a favorite song. What do you listen too?

Great Arena music Mary. I enjoyed it last night while I filled orders. I'll bring it to the barn today.
